The spectacular landscapes in the Dart River Valley are nothing short of awe-inspiring, with snow-capped mountain peaks, crystal clear waterways and lush ancient native beech forests.

The braided Dart River (or Te Awa Whakatipu) flows for 60km from the Southern Alps and the Dart Glacier in the heart of Mount Aspiring National Park, until it reaches the northern tip of Lake Whakatipu near Glenorchy. Towered by mountain ranges on either side, the Dart River Valley offers stunning panoramic views at every turn.

The original Wilderness Jet Experience, an exhilarating and spectacular journey from Glenorchy, deep into the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Area. 

Experience the longest scenic jetboat ride in the region. Travel from the head of Lake Whakatipu along the braided Dart River through iconic landscapes, towering mountain ranges and ancient native forests. Learn the culture and history of Te Wāhipounamu South West New Zealand UNESCO World Heritage Area from your passionate and knowledgeable driver on this unforgettable half day adventure.

Departure Times

2 Hour Wilderness Jet Experience

• Morning tours with transport included depart from The Station Building, 25 Shotover Street, Queenstown at 8.30am, Thursday to Monday. Please note, check in is required 15 minutes prior to departure. 

• Morning tours where customers select to use their own transport to get to Glenorchy depart from the Dart River Adventures Visitor Centre, 45 Mull Street, Glenorchy at 9.30am. Please note check in is required 15 mins prior to departure. 

• Afternoon tours depart from the Dart River Adventures Visitor Centre, 45 Mull Street, Glenorchy at 1pm,  Thursday to Monday. Please note, check in is required 15 minutes prior to departure. 

Funyaks Experience

What To Bring

Life Jackets are supplied and mandatory on the jet boat.

Summer: Sunglasses, sun hat, camera, sunscreen, insect repellent and warm outer layer recommended

Winter: Wear warm clothing plus hat, gloves, windproof outer jacket, sunglasses and camera.

1 hour & 2 hour Wilderness Jet: Minimum child height of 100cm applies (120cm in some conditions), minimum age is 3 years. 

This experience is not suitable for pregnant women, those with specific medical conditions, including people who suffer from back or neck injuries.  Please contact us prior to booking so we can assess and advise your suitability to travel.
