Kaikōura is one of the best places in the world to encounter dolphins in their natural environment.  Dusky dolphins are known as an interactive and acrobatic species of dolphin; they are thrilling to watch and magical to interact with. Here the encounter is all on their terms. With one of the highest success rates in the world, this bucket list experience is one you will never forget!

 

Product Description

Choose swimming or watching on our tours and cruise the spectacular Kaikōura coastline with us.

The curious Dusky Dolphins are often as interested in the boat and those swimming as we are in them!

For those opting to swim we supply everything you need; wetsuit, snorkel, mask and fins.

For those who prefer to stay dry and spectate, our purpose built vessels allow ample space to take in the spectacle.

It is not unusual to see large numbers of dolphins; and their antics both above the water and in it with the swimmers create one of the best wildlife shows you can see anywhere!

 

Departure Times

Mid November - April	8.30am & 12.30pm daily
May - September	10.00am daily
October & Early November	8.30am daily

All tours are subject to minimum numbers and suitable sea conditions on the day to operate.

Please note our popular high season 5.30am sunrise departure is not currently scheduled due to reduced demand.  We look forward to reinstating this in the future!

Duration

We suggest that you allow 3.5 hours for a tour. 

You are typically at sea for approximately 2.5 hours and the average swim time is 30 minutes.

What To Bring

• We recommend a few layers of clothing so that you can adapt to conditions at sea on the day. 
• Be prepared for NZ weather – always wear sunscreen and bring rain jackets if required.
• There will be photo opportunities!  We encourage you to bring your own camera, smart phone and/or GoPro.  We also have GoPro cameras and accessories available for hire subject to availability at time of request.  Please note that drones are not permitted on our tours.
• Whilst we have some limited water supply on board, refreshments are not available to purchase at sea. We have an onsite Café at our operating base that does great breakfast, lunch and take away.  You are welcome to bring your own fresh water and snacks with you.  Please note that during certain Covid restrictions we are unable to provide complimentary hot drinks on board which you may see advertised ahead of your tour.
• Those intending to swim will need a swimsuit, and towel.   A small gear bag is also necessary as you take all your clothing with you on the boat.  We have swimwear and towels available for rent and reusable bags available for purchase at check in. Wetsuits, fins and snorkeling equipment are provided and included as part of your fare.
