At Tawharanui Regional Park for an unforgettable evening adventure awaits. Experience guided kiwi-spotting tour through native bush at dusk, then move on to a secluded stargazing spot where you'll marvel at the night sky, free from city lights. If lucky and during season, you may even witness the enchanting glow of bioluminescent plankton along the shoreline, creating a magical experience that captures the beauty of nature after dark. If you don't want the night to end then with have the optional extra of spending the night in one of our comfortable glamping tents.
Just a short drive from Auckland, gather at the end of Takatu Road in Tawharanui Regional Park. Here, you'll meet your group and receive a briefing on the evening's itinerary, safety protocols, and the park's rich ecosystem.
As dusk falls, embark on a thrilling kiwi-spotting adventure, guided through the park's native bush. Keep your senses sharp as you search for signs of kiwi activity, while your guide shares fascinating insights about these iconic birds.
Next, venture to a secluded stargazing spot, far from city lights, where minimal light pollution allows the night sky to shine in all its glory. Equipped with telescopes and binoculars, you'll witness a breathtaking display of stars, planets, and celestial wonders, complemented by stories of astronomy and indigenous lore.
As the evening progresses, experience the enchanting sight of bioluminescent plankton lighting up the shoreline with their natural blue-green glow. During certain seasons, watch these tiny organisms create a mesmerizing spectacle as they react to movement, turning the waves into a shimmering dance of light.
End your adventure by returning to the car park with newfound friends and lasting memories. If you've chosen to stay overnight in a glamping tent, drift off to sleep to the soothing sounds of waves and distant kiwi calls.
