Set in 80 hectares within 15 minutes’ drive of Christchurch Airport, Orana Wildlife Park provides the ultimate animal adventure. We get you up close and personal with the animals.

Imagine hand feeding a majestic giraffe; eye balling the magnificent white rhino; meeting New Zealand’s national icon, the kiwi or travelling through the Lion Reserve!

Orana is internationally renowned for its involvement in zoo-based breeding programmes for endangered exotic and native species. When you visit, you are supporting our conservation work.

There is something to entertain people of all ages, for the entire day, at Orana Wildlife Park!

The Park is home to New Zealand's only gorillas.

Departure Times

Orana Wildlife Park is open daily from 10:00am until 5:00pm

Last entrance is 4:00pm, although it is recommended to allow at least 2 hours visit duration to make the most of your Park experience.

The Park is only CLOSED on Christmas Day and is otherwise open every day of the year (including statutory holidays). 

Duration

It is recommended to allow at least 2 hours to make the most of your Park experience however, the average visit duration is 3-5 hours. To make the most of your Park visit and to optimise viewing opportunities of the animals, we recommend you follow the daily animal presentation schedule.

Orana Wildlife Trust, a registered charitable trust, owns and operates Orana Wildlife Park. The Trust is committed to the conservation of wildlife diversity on this planet. Our aim, along with being dedicated to the conservation of endangered species and the welfare of our animals, is to provide education, recreation and enjoyment to the public.

Orana Wildlife Trust is a full institutional member of the following organisations: World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) of Australasia and ZAA NZ. ZAA NZ co-ordinates all the zoo-based breeding programmes for New Zealand species on behalf of the Department of Conservation.
