Racers Edge is Wanaka’s premier ski and snowboard rental destination. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent customer service paired with local knowledge as well as having the best equipment so you can have a great day on the slopes.

At Racers Edge, we offer premium snow equipment for hire. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff will help you choose the best gear, taking the time to make sure it’s the right fit, whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced skier or snowboarder. Our snow rental packages include family, multi day or group ski hire discounts as well as a pay for five get the sixth day free deal! Our computerised rental system, combined with Wanaka’s largest dedicated rental operation with the latest in ski and snowboard design and technology, makes renting easy.

As well as ski and snowboard rental, Racers Edge offer snow clothing and helmet hire. Our retail space has everything else you need such as goggles, gloves, jackets, socks, beanies and more to get you ready for your on snow experience.  

With special rental packages, a great range of equipment and friendly service, you will be well looked after.

Our rental is divided into three categories:

Performance

Our performance range has skis and snowboards that we can tailor to any ability, all terrain types and any snow conditions. These include skis from Volkl, Salomon, K2, Atomic, Blizzard, Armada, and snowboards exclusively from Burton. If you’re after the best experience on snow, no matter what ability level you are, the performance range is tailer made for you.

Sport

Our sport range offers the latest in intermediate and beginner ski and board rental equipment. The skis and snowboards in this range are wider underfoot for additional stability and control. They have a dynamic side cut and use a rocker profile allowing for easier turn initiation and faster turn shape. The equipment in our sport range have a more forgiving flex pattern to enhance confidence and ultimately help skier or snowboarder progression. Within this range we also offer a more advance option for progressive kids.

Standard

Our standard range is our ski and snowboard package for the price conscious customer. These skis and snowboards are ideal for a beginner skiers or snowboarders working to a budget and keen to have fun on snow!

Within this range are our kids rental skis, offering a light weight, easy turning option for junior skiers.

Within all of our rental categories we make sure that your boots are the right fit. With boots from Salomon, Atomic, Tecnica, Dalbello and Burton, as well as team of trained boot fitters, we are able to match your foot with the right boot.

Our winter hours are 7.30am - 7.30pm, Monday - Sunday.

Company Info

Racers Edge has long been an institution in the New Zealand ski industry. Our mission is to motivate and enable people to have the best experience in the outdoors.

Back in 1982 Racers Edge was conceived by a couple of enthusiastic skiers looking to make a dollar or two out of the fledgeling ski industry in Wanaka. Based out of a fruit shop, Racers Edge operated a ski rental business over the winter months. The insulated cool room became a drying room, the fruit box shelves served as rental boot storage. As times changed so did the business. 1989 was a big year for Racers Edge and for Shaker (a.k.a Steve Schikker, owner), with a brand new premises beautifully clad in local stone. The adventure store now had a permanent home. While the winter business grew and grew, the business also developed a summer retail shop making the new, central premises a year round operation.

Based on principles of quality product and excellence in customer service, Racers Edge now sets a benchmark in the New Zealand ski, bike, outdoor and lifestyle industries.
