Our 75-minute stargazing tour includes private access to some of the darkest and most accessible locations around Lake Tekapo.

It is a mixture of naked-eye visual stargazing, learning about the brighter stars and important constellations, learning how to navigate using the night sky, telescope observations, a free individual photograph of you standing under the stars, and an introduction to the scientific field of astronomy.

Product Description

Discover the wonders of the night sky on a stargazing experience. Be whisked away to super dark stargazing locations, with some of the lowest light pollution in Tekapo, at the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve.

Get access to powerful 14” telescopes for views of various deep space objects and special astro-lasers for easy viewing of stars and constellations. With the tour size capped at 10 people, enjoy a small ratio of telescopes to guests and get plenty of time on the telescopes and with the guide.

At the end of your journey, get a photo taken of your group under the stars (depending on the weather), which you will receive within 48 hours via email to share with your family and friends.

Go Tekapo owns 50,000 acres of farmland in Lake Tekapo that is home to 12,000 Merino Sheep, 600 Angus Beef Cattle, 30 Horses, and 15 Alpaca.

We’ve dedicated ourselves to the goal of sustainable farming and are very proud to have reached the milestone of becoming a “carbon positive” farm and have achieved the highest possible grade in our most recent sustainability audit.

We have now opened access to our land for a variety of tourism operations, from a family friendly petting zoo & farm tours to stargazing, bespoke fishing & hunting tours. Our aim is to provide visitors to Lake Tekapo the option to experience the High-Country adventure of their choice.
