Your holiday starts from the moment you enter through the gate into our large landscaped garden with meandering footpaths.  Sunny and shady outdoor seating invite spending a lazy afternoon in our tranquil gardens, away from all the noise and hussle of the city.

Here at The Old Countryhouse you are on the doorstep of our beautiful home, Christchurch, with the city center being a leisurely 15-minute stroll away or 20 minutes if you want to walk along the Avon River. We have local supermarkets and a butcher just 2 minutes away to stock up on supplies or an awesome fish and chip shop just around the corner as well if you don't feel like cooking. We are also accessible from the airport by bus and only a 20-minute walk from the intercity bus terminal.

Buses to local beaches, all major shopping malls, and city leave directly from our doorstep. Easily accessible from the airport and only 1500 metres from the Intercity Bus Depot.

Whether you are looking for like-minded travelers, a friendly place to hang out for a while, or a locally savvy home base to explore the amazing Christchurch from, we have you covered!

Our lightning fast gigabit Ultra Fibre WIFI makes waiting for pages to sluggishly load a thing of the past as you face time, stream and trip-plan to your hearts content. And with all the time you save from our super broadband you can take a moment to relax in our spa or sauna area or watch a few movies with new friends in one of our inviting lounges. A word about the Spa and Sauna: due to Covid-19 we are unable to run the Spa and Sauna at full capacity, and we apologise if this service may not be open during your stay.

We offer a range of accommodation options from dorm beds in various size rooms, private rooms with and without ensuite bathrooms, family rooms, and a self-contained three-bedroom apartment.

Groups can also enquire to book a complete villa exclusively for their sporting or other team events.

Location Information

The property is located on the corner of Gloucester Street and Stanmore Road. 

Buses to and from the city and the local beach leave from outside.

There are a variety of small supermarkets, butcher, fish'n Chips, pizza etc located in the block opposite the hostel.  A larger New World supermarket is 5-10 minute walk up Stanmore Road.

A community garden with a local donation-type shop is just around the corner.

The fantastic Under the Red Verandah cafe is just a 5 minute walk, Pommeroys, our favorite pub often with live music is just a 10 minute walk and up Stanmore Road you will find an array of restaurants, including Thai, Indian, Persian cuisine.
