Tucked away in the beautiful countryside, Waikite Valley Hotpools is a special place to experience the natural, hot geothermal water of the Te Manaroa Spring, the largest single source of 100% pure geothermal water in New Zealand. This pure geothermal water cascades into the pools throughout the day, creating a constant fresh flow of mineral goodness. Each pool is drained every night and refilled for visitors to enjoy the next day.
A great option for individuals, couples and families of all ages, those who want to experience Waikite Valley Hotpools can soak in geothermal pools, explore the Eco Trail to Te Manaora Spring, stay in the small campground or have a bite to eat from the snack cafe.
Whether you’re a solo traveller, pair, group of friends or a family looking to soothe tired muscles after an action-packed day, General Admission gives you access to six outdoor pools, with temperatures ranging from approximately 30 °C to 40 °C — making it easy for everyone to find a pool that suits them.
Spend time in the Garden and Pergola Pools overlooking open farmland and the Otamakokore Stream, or soak in the original Settlers Pool, built by the local community in 1969 and still a favourite with locals today. For some variety, move between the cooler tubs and the hotter Soak Pool, enjoying the simple pleasure of warm geothermal water and fresh air.
If you are a couple or group of up to 4 people looking for a secluded soak, you could book one of the Private Pools which measure 1.6m in diameter and gives you the freedom to adjust the temperature yourself. Booking a private pool grants you a 40 minute session and includes use of the 6 outdoor pools as well.
The Eco Trail to Te Manaroa Spring is at the heart of Waikite Valley Hotpools, as it is where the pure geothermal water is sourced from. The trail is short and flat, with plenty of information along the way before reaching the bubbling force of Te Manaroa. With NZ bush on one side and the geothermal stream on the other, the trail can only be done during daylight hours for the health and safety of all.
The small campground offers powered and unpowered campsites for people happy to stay off the beaten track with basic facilities, limited cell phone reception and no wifi. A perfect place to connect with nature, the campers enjoy access to the 6 outdoor pools included in camping fees.
