Product Description

Our favourite place on Lake Wanaka. Mou Waho Island is a protected nature reserve and is home to many New Zealand Native birds including the curious and flightless Buff Weka.

Enjoy your boat ride 15 km up Lake Wanaka, passing Mou Tapu Island and the steep cliffs of Fisherman's Cove to the island. Your friendly and knowledgeable skipper will inform you of the local history, conservation efforts and the fascinating geology of the Alps and glaciers that created the lake as you travel along it's sparkling waters. 

Once on the island, you get to explore it at your own pace. A short but steep walk takes you to the hidden lake on top of the island, which is a great spot for a swim! Climb a bit further to the lookout for the most breathtaking views of the hidden lake, Arethusa Pool, Lake Wanaka and the surrounding peaks. 

Departure Times

During the summer we depart twice daily at 10 am & 2 pm. 

Off season departure is 11 am. 

Duration

Trip takes 3 hours+  And you have at least an hour and a half on the island, but mostly longer. 

What To Bring

The track is steep and uneven in places (with plenty of benches to rest) so the right shoes helps. Walking or running shoes are ideal. 

Swim wear to cool of in the lake on top of the island or in Lake Wanaka after your walk.

Camera

Water bottle and snacks if you like.
